2010 Balfour Leadership Training Workshop Officer Teams

Below is a list of the 9 officer/curriculum teams that will be a part of the 2010 Balfour LTW along with a breif overview of what you can expect from each of the teams.

Consuls
Balfour LTW is the perfect place for a Consul to build a foundation of skills to lead your chapter forward.  It is also a great opportunity to build or improve your network of support and resources with other Consuls and alumni.

Pro Consuls

Pro Consuls will be provided tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their chapter and executive team at Balfour LTW.  The skills of strategic thinking, communication and teamwork will be discussed to assist your chapter in delivering results and goals in EC Leadership, Post Initiate Training, and officer transitioning.

This summer in North Carolina, 200 Pro Consuls will return to spend three days addressing the biggest issues facing their chapter.  During chapter planning sessions and small group discussions, Pro Consuls will learn the skills and leadership practices to develop a comprehensive strategic plan, design and implement a post initiation training program and learn real-world management techniques to effectively lead their chapter.

Quaestors

Competency in the forms, fees, and processes of the chapter's finances is essential to the health of a chapter.  The Queastors Team will focus on the practices and skills to be successful in this role.

The Quaestor is a key position in the chapter that will help guide it to success.  The 2010 Balfour LTW Quaestor curriculum will focus on reviewing the primary responsibilities as the Chapter CFO, ways to overcome challenges as Quaestor, and the methods to achieve financial EXcellence. Topics covered include: creating a budget, building a financial plan, and reviewing available resources in each Quaestor’s toolbox.

Magisters

Magisters attending Balfour LTW will enhance their abilities in the areas of organization, Ritual proficiency, strategic thinking, integrity and courtesy in order to effectively guide purposed and meaningful pledge education periods.

The Magister serves the chapter and Sigma Chi by conducting a program of education with the goal of establishing a culture of understanding and comprehension of the Ritual of the Fraternity.  Those men who have not witnessed the Fraternity’s ritual should expect from their chapter treatment which is in compliance with the Ritual, Ritualistic Statutes, Constitution, and Governing Laws of the Fraternity.  It is the job of the Magister to ensure that this expectation is met.  The 2010 Balfour LTW Magister curriculum will cover the topics of: the development of a pledge education program the enhances the academic and social aspects of participants; effective execution of the Magister’s administrative duties; and the role of the Magister as an educator and enforcer of all policies within the chapter and the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Recruitment Chair

The Recruitment Chair team will focus on the skills needed to instill in your chapter Sigma Chi's commitment to values based recruitment.  Tools of communication and organziation that are critical in any effective recruitment will also be discussed and learned.

The role of a Recruitment Officer is a key position in the chapter and at Balfour LTW.  Successful results from recruiting the right members can chart the course of a chapter to excellence for many years to come.  The 2010 Recruitment curriculum will focus on developing each participant with skills to effectively recruit the BEST MEN into Sigma Chi.  Topics will include strategies to 1) communicate effectively, 2) understand social dynamics, 3) practice interpersonal selling techniques, 4) make decisions based on our ritual values, 5) share best practice tactics, and 6) organize a planned recruitment strategy to efficiently deploy resources.   By incorporating interactive role playing sessions, each participant will be able to apply and develop successful recruitment practices.

Risk Manager

The Risk Manager is one of the key positions in the chapter and the curriculum at Balfour LTW is designed to provide the tools needed to be successful in this position.  Best practices related to risk management planning, development and implementation will be discussed.

The Risk Manager is a key position in the chapter and at Balfour LTW.  The 2010 Risk Manager curriculum will focus on personal, house, and party risk management.  Topics covered will include strategies to address addiction, dangerous and unhealthy behavior, the maintenance of a safe living and working environment, and tactics to manage party risks.  Interactive sessions and presentations by leaders and experts in the three focus areas will discuss approaches a risk manager may utilize to develop and maintain solid risk management practices.  The program will be open to all Chapter Risk Managers and those brothers who have an interest in promoting and mitigating risk in the chapter.

Expansion

The Expansion Team is designed to meet the specific needs of Sigma Chi colonies.  Attendees will focus on the practices of effective chapter and officer leadership, expansion progression, efficient chapter operations, and how to work with alumni.

Expansion students have yet to be exposed to the Sigma Chi ritual, so the primary teaching of the 2010 Balfour LTW Expansion curriculum addresses how to bring the Values of Sigma Chi into the operations of a colony without the aid of ritual.  The curriculum will also include techniques for Growth in size, financial stability and organizational maturity.  Thirdly, by addressing the core element of Sustainability for long-term, enduring success, we believe we will be preparing our members to build chapters of Sigma Chi on their campus that will be worthy of the great expectations that have been set for them.

Emerging Programs
The Emerging Programs Team will be presenting important topics that every chapter in North America is trying to improve or create. These timely and relevant topics will cover the areas of Ritual: a deeper discussion of what is correct and how to apply it to our lives every day.  Having an effective pledge program that prepares future brothers for a life long journey in Sigma Chi. Developing great and effective University Relations on your campuses: this is a relationship that is a critical and an important ally for every chapter. Drug and Alcohol Awareness: in the light of understanding when Brothers or friends need help and how to watch for signs of abuse. Finally, Apathy: every chapter experiences it and how to lead through it to build stronger brotherhoods and chapters.

Alumni

Whether your involvement with the Fraternity has been at the Grand Officer level, or you are a recent graduate continuing your journey with Sigma Chi, the 2010 Balfour LTW welcomes you to engage in the programming that has been tailored specifically for alumni attendees' needs.

The 2010 Alumni Division will incorporate separate curricula for Chapter Advisors, House Corporation Officers, and Alumni Ambassador training. The training session that is available for you to attend depends on your current role within the Fraternity or by invitation.

The Alumni Division schedule has been specifically constructed to overlap with undergraduate chapter strategic planning time and allow you the opportunity interact with undergraduate chapters in your local area at Balfour LTW.
